R03 – RS232 Protection for HVAC & BMS
The R03 Separator is designed to solve the common issue of ground potential differences in RS232 communication. Unlike the robust RS485, RS232 shares a common ground, making it highly susceptible to noise and damage when connecting devices on different power circuits. The R03 uses 3-way optical isolation (3000 VDC) to completely separate the two communication ports and the power supply.
This "Floating Ground" architecture ensures that no current can flow between the connected devices, preventing port burnout. Additionally, the R03 regenerates the RS232 voltage levels, extending the reliable communication distance beyond the standard 15 meters. With its ability to accept 24 VAC power, it is perfectly suited for Building Management Systems (BMS) where AC power is standard.
